Milk Preparation Guide:
-
To make 30mL of milk: Mix 1 level scoop (6.5g) of powder with 25mL of warm water.
-
To make 1L of milk: Mix 215g of powder with 850mL of warm water.
Add half the water to the powder to form a smooth paste, then mix in the remaining water. Use pre-boiled, cooled water for hygiene. Avoid using overly hot water as it may cause curdling. Refrigerate prepared milk for up to 24 hours or freeze in small portions (e.g. ice cube trays) for up to 2 weeks.
Feeding Instructions:
Warm milk to approximately 35°C. Feed kittens with a bottle using a C or P Teat. Tube feeding may be required in emergency cases. Feed every 2 hours for the first 3 days, every 4 hours by the end of the first week, and every 6 hours by the second week. Gently stimulate the kitten after each feed to encourage urination and defecation.
Once the kitten’s eyes open and they become more active, offer pre-boiled water between feeds. Always ensure clean water is available once the kitten is mobile.
Growth and Weaning:
Expect weight gain of 10–15g per day. Weigh kittens daily to monitor progress and adjust feeding amounts accordingly. Overfeeding may cause diarrhoea.
Begin weaning at 4 weeks of age. Offer softened kitten food mixed with prepared milk. Gradually increase the solid food while reducing milk over the next few weeks until fully weaned by 8 weeks.
