Sand lube – A nutural fibre that helps to pass ingested sand without causing scouring. Do not use in horses with colic without veterinary advice.

Sandlube is a psyllium-based natural fibre.  Unlike bran or oil remedies, this fibre becomes gel-like, & uses the normal contraction of the bowel to effectively remove sand from the horses gut. 

Sand colic occurs when horses ingest sand whilst grazing.  The sand settles in the horse's intestine & may become life threatening.  Post mortems of fatal colic cases have shown cases of over 50kgs of sand in the large intestine.

Sand colic symptoms may include:

• Prolonged colic
• Sluggish behaviour
• Weight loss
• Chronic diarrhoea
• Stretching out into a position, as if to urinate.   Either none, or only a small amount or urine is voided.

Directions for Use: (dependent on the environment & the individual)

• 1 measure (125 grams) on two consecutive days per week
• 2 measures (250 grams) twice weekly or more for high risk cases.

Mix with dry feed, or add after a wet feed has been prepared and mixed.

To increase palatability, try mixing sandlube with:mollasses

Sandlube does not cause scouring.   Sand passes in the normal droppings approximately 24 to 72 hours after sandlube ingestion.
