Mixing Instructions

To prepare 100mL of milk:

• Mix 14g of powder (2 scoops) with 90mL of warm pre-boiled water.

To prepare 1L of milk:

• Mix 140g of powder with 900mL of warm pre-boiled water.

Mixing Tip:
Add half the water to the powder and stir into a paste before adding the rest. Use water that’s warm—but not boiling—to prevent curdling. For larger batches, an electric whisk may help ensure a smooth blend. Store mixed milk in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours, or freeze in portion sizes (e.g. ice cube trays) for up to two weeks. Discard any unused thawed milk and always clean feeding equipment thoroughly.

Feeding Guide

• Warm milk to approximately 35°C before feeding.
• Feed using a syringe with an F Teat or bottle and teat – the F Teat best mimics a flying fox nipple.

Feeding frequency:

• 0–3 weeks: 5 feeds/day
• 4 weeks onward: Reduce to 4 feeds/day
• Stimulate urination and defecation after every feed.
• In hot weather, offer small amounts of pre-boiled water between feeds to prevent dehydration.
• Once pups are mobile, always provide access to clean drinking water.

Growth & Monitoring

Growth rates vary by species. Use the Grey-headed Flying Fox growth chart as a general guide for similarly sized bats, such as Black or Spectacled Flying Foxes.

• Weigh pups regularly to monitor progress and adjust feed volumes accordingly.
• Avoid overfeeding to prevent digestive upset or diarrhoea.

Weaning Recommendations

• 6–7 weeks: Begin offering pureed or steamed apple between milk feeds.
• 8–10 weeks: Introduce diced, non-fibrous fruits like apple or pear. Lightly coat with High Protein Supplement.
• Encourage consumption of native fruits and blossom to prepare for a return to a natural diet.
• Gradually reduce milk intake as solid food increases.
• Fully weaned by approximately 12 weeks of age.

Additional Support

For newborn pups that haven’t received colostrum, consider using Impact Colostrum Supplement to support early immunity. Always consult a veterinarian or experienced wildlife carer for species-specific care and feeding recommendations.
