Comprehensive medicated shampoo for the treatment of bacterial, yeast, and fungal skin infections.
Dermcare Malaseb® Medicated Shampoo is a topical keratolytic, antibacterial, antifungal, and antipruritic shampoo specifically formulated for dogs and cats. It is clinically indicated for the treatment of seborrhoeic dermatitis caused by Staphylococcus pseudintermedius (bacteria) and Malassezia pachydermatis (yeast), as well as an aid in the management of ringworm (dermatophytosis) infections caused by Microsporum canis, Microsporum gypseum, and Trichophyton mentagrophytes.
This medicated shampoo helps to remove scales, degrease the skin, and eliminate cutaneous micro-organisms that are primary or secondary contributors to dermatitis, supporting a healthier coat and skin.
Active Ingredients
- Chlorhexidine Gluconate 20 g/L – Broad-spectrum antibacterial agent that kills disease-causing bacteria on the skin.
- Miconazole Nitrate 20 g/L – Antifungal agent effective against yeast and dermatophytes.
How Malaseb Helps Your Pet
- Removes scales and excess oil – Helps restore the skin’s natural balance.
- Controls bacterial and yeast infections – Eliminates Staphylococcus and Malassezia overgrowth.
- Supports fungal infection management – Assists in the treatment of ringworm in dogs and cats.
- Reduces itching and irritation – Soothes inflamed, itchy skin for improved comfort.
Why Pets Get Skin Infections
It is normal for dogs and cats to have low levels of bacteria and yeast on their skin. However, when the skin’s natural ecosystem is disrupted, overgrowth can occur, leading to infection. Common underlying causes include:
- Allergies – environmental (pollens, weeds), food-related, or flea allergy.
- Parasites – fleas, mites, and lice.
- Hormonal or endocrine disorders.
Effective treatment of both the secondary infection and any underlying cause is critical for optimal skin health. Your veterinarian can provide diagnostic tests such as cytology to identify the specific micro-organisms and determine the best treatment plan.
Directions for Use
-
Preparation: Wet your pet thoroughly with clean, lukewarm water.
-
Application: Apply Malaseb® Medicated Shampoo at several points and massage into the coat. Use a sponge to improve lathering and ensure penetration, especially around the lips, under the tail, and between the toes where organisms commonly reside.
-
Dosage: Use approximately 1–2 mL per kg of body weight. For example:
-
50 mL is sufficient for a 30 kg medium-haired dog
-
7–10 mL is sufficient for an adult cat
-
-
Contact Time: Leave shampoo on for 10 minutes, supervising your pet to prevent ingestion or inhalation.
-
Rinse: Thoroughly rinse with clean water to remove all shampoo residue.
-
Frequency: Repeat twice weekly until symptoms improve, then weekly or as advised by your veterinarian. For ringworm treatment, all in-contact animals should be treated to limit spread.
Tips for Bathing Cats
- Avoid running water – fill 3 large buckets with warm water.
- Gently dunk the cat (excluding the head) into the first bucket, apply shampoo, and lather.
- Wrap the cat in a towel for the 10-minute contact time to keep them warm and prevent licking.
- Sequentially dunk the cat in the remaining two buckets to thoroughly rinse all shampoo.
Cautions & Safety
- Use with caution around eyes: Flush thoroughly with clean water if shampoo enters eyes. Seek veterinary advice if irritation occurs.
- Supervise during contact time: Licking or inhaling shampoo foam may irritate the gastrointestinal or respiratory tract.
- Species restriction: For use in dogs and cats only. Do not use in rabbits or other species.
- Protective measures: Wear rubber gloves during application. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Wash hands thoroughly after use.
First Aid
- If swallowed: Do not induce vomiting. Contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre (Australia 131126).
- If in eyes: Hold eyes open, flush with water for at least 15 minutes, and seek medical attention.
Storage & Disposal
- Storage: Keep below 30°C (room temperature) in a cool, dry place, out of reach of children and pets.
- Disposal: Wrap container in paper and place in garbage.

Great product.
By: Jane on 6 May 2016Our Westie has allergies to grass and fleas, resulting in scratching, irritation and red sore patches. One shampoo treatment with this product resulted in all of this clearing up and going away. I find one treatment every week or two is enough to keep things in check. This is a miracle product, nothing else worked. Just follow the instructions and you can't go wrong.

Great Product And Service
By: Jane on 5 June 2015I could not believe how quickly this item was received and I am in the UK. It is a fantastic product that cleared my dogs hotspots up within a week of using. Doesn't smell unpleasant either. The price was out of this world too! At my local vet a 250ml cost more than the 500ml bottle I purchased off the vet shed! Extremely happy with my purchase and the customer service that was provided. 10/10 guys!

Great!
By: Shlomy on 23 October 2014My dog has been itching and licking like crazy, pulling chunks of hair on his back, his back foot, groin became black from constant licking. I believe it's due to a food that contained potato in it which lead to what seems to be yeast infection. I read good things about this shampoo & decided to try it. I've only used it 3 times so far but it seemed to have helped with the itching. hopefully with more use the hair will come back & the black elephant skin will dissapear.. My order arrived quickly and well packed, very pleased with your service & have just ordered another one.

Relief for skin issues
By: Jane on 31 July 2014Sadly, I have a family of Westies with allergies and associated itching and skin problems. My vet advised to use Malaseb which cannot take the allergy away, but regularly washing with this shampoo alleviates the itching as it addresses the secundary itching caused by yeasts. I got a tip that this shampoo is (including shipment) much cheaper in Australia than in Europe and I am happy that I found the Vet Shed. Excellent service; I will definitely order again from them when the bottles are empty.
