Kangaroo Milk Replacer 0.4 – For Mid-Stage Pouch Life Joeys (40–60%)
Specifically developed for kangaroo and wallaby joeys that have completed between 40% to 60% of their pouch life, this milk replacer supports young animals during a vulnerable transitional stage. At this age, joeys are furless or just beginning to pigment, with eyes nearly or just opened and ears beginning to stand. They remain pouch-bound but may occasionally peek out. Faeces are typically yellow with a soft, toothpaste-like consistency.
Key Benefits
- Tailored for early to mid-lactation: Closely mimics the natural composition of kangaroo milk at this stage.
- Balanced energy and nutrition: Moderate energy content with an ideal ratio of carbohydrates and fats for healthy development.
- Supports hair growth: Enriched with sulphur-containing amino acids (cysteine and methionine) critical for the onset of fur development.

Directions for Use
Use Kangaroo Milk Replacer 0.4 for unfurred joeys prior to the onset of fur development. These young animals are particularly fragile and should only be cared for by experienced wildlife rehabilitators.
Mixing Instructions
-
To make 100mL: Mix 18g of powder (2½ scoops) with 90mL of warm pre-boiled water.
-
To make 1 litre: Mix 180g of powder with 900mL of warm water.
Start by mixing half the water with the powder to form a smooth paste, then add the remaining water and mix thoroughly. Ensure water is warm but not hot, as excessive heat may cause the milk to curdle. Use sterilised equipment. Prepared milk can be refrigerated for 24 hours or frozen for up to two weeks in small portions (e.g. ice cube trays). Thaw only the amount needed and discard any leftovers. Wash all feeding equipment thoroughly after each use.
Feeding Guide
Warm milk to approximately 30°C before feeding. Use a bottle with a Wombaroo STM Teat suitable for small in-pouch joeys. Feed approximately 6 to 8 times per day. If dehydration is suspected, especially in hot weather, offer small amounts of water between feeds. Joeys dehydrate quickly if not kept under optimal husbandry conditions.
Growth Monitoring
Macropod growth rates vary by species. Use the Wombaroo growth charts for species-specific guidelines. Weigh joeys regularly to ensure healthy weight gain and to adjust feed volumes as needed. Avoid overfeeding, as excess milk can cause diarrhoea.
Transition to Kangaroo Milk Replacer 0.6
When fur begins appearing on the nose and head, the joey is ready to transition to the 0.6 formula. This transition should be done gradually over 10 days by mixing increasing amounts of the new formula with decreasing amounts of the 0.4 formula. Transition timing is based on age, not weight. Refer to the Wombaroo growth charts for more details.
Immune Support
Wombaroo Impact Colostrum Supplement can be used to support immune function during early life stages.
