NRG Bitter Tails is a highly effective bitter spray designed to deter foals and young horses from chewing tails, rugs, bandages, and stable fixtures. This trusted Australian-made formula creates a long-lasting, water-repellent barrier that discourages chewing without damaging hair or leaving sticky residue.

Formulated as a water-based emulsion, NRG Bitter Tails dries clear and remains effective for days, even in wet conditions. Unlike oil-based deterrents, it will not cause tangles, allowing tails to remain soft, shiny, and easy to groom.

The spray contains an extremely bitter (but non-toxic) agent that discourages unwanted chewing behaviours. It is capsicum-free, produces no harsh fumes, and is safe for use around foals and sensitive horses. Importantly, it will not return a positive swab, making it suitable for competition horses.

Directions for Use

• Shake bottle well before use
• Wear gloves, face, and eye protection to avoid contact with the bitter taste
• Always spray downwind to prevent droplets contacting skin or face
• Open nozzle and spray in a sweeping downward motion, 5–10cm away from the tail
• Allow to dry fully before grooming or rugging
• Reapply weekly or more frequently in very wet conditions
• Close nozzle after use to prevent leakage
• Wash hands thoroughly with warm soapy water after application
