MALASEB Shampoo An excellent broad spectrum medicated shampoo, suitable for all forms of skin infections.
Registered Name: Dermcare Malaseb Medicated Foam
Composition: Miconazole nitrate 20 g/L, chlorhexidine gluconate 20 g/L.
Actions: Miconazole is a synthetic imidazole derivative which has a pronounced antifungal effect against Malassezia (Pityrosporum) pachydermatis, the dermatophytes Microsporum gypseum, M. canis and Trichophyton mentagrophytes, and a potent activity against Gram-positive bacteria.
Chlorhexidine has a broad spectrum of activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, yeasts, moulds and fungi.
The combination of miconazole and chlorhexidine is efficacious at killing the causative organisms of seborrhoeic dermatitis, M. pachydermatis and Staphylococcus intermedius. Staph. intermedius occurs as an overgrowth pathogen in the presence of Malassezia and is the main bacterial species responsible for bacterial dermatitis in the dog and cat.
Indications: Treatment of seborrhoeic dermatitis associated with Staphylococcus intermedius and Malassezia (Pityrosporum) pachydermatis; aid in the treatment of dermatophyte infections (ringworm) due to Microsporum canis, M. gypseum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes in dogs and cats by decreasing the time to clinical resolution and killing infective spores.
Directions for use: Wet the animal thoroughly with clean water. Apply the foam to the animal at several points and massage into the coat. A sponge assists lathering and penetration of the coat. Ensure that Malaseb is applied around the lips, under the tail and between the toes as these areas harbour causative organisms. Allow to stand for ten minutes, then rinse off with clean water. Repeat twice weekly until symptoms abate then use weekly, or on veterinary advice.
With dermatophytosis (ringworm) all in-contact animals should be treated to limit infection spreading and environmental contamination.

By: Janet on 9 September 2022The vet I visit with my 2 dogs recommended Malaseb shampoo many years ago to help maintain healthy skin and fur for my fur babies. I have always used this product at bath time. It is difficult to leave on for 10 minutes during Winter (as they tend to shiver) however their skin is always clean and free of any problems. This product is expensive but I am more concerned that my pets are healthy hence I use a measuring cup at bath time to not waste this shampoo as we do tend to use several bottles a year. I thoroughly recommend this product.

He had previosly big problems whith itching, ear infections and hotspots, all this because of food allergies according to the wet. Have now used Malaseb for short intervals during the last three years and the situation has improved enormously.

By: Jeni on 30 June 2011Our wee Jack x Chihuahua (4kg) used to get itchy then baldy feet when coming home after being out in the wet (even after drying before getting in the car or house), our vet said it was a yeast infection and to try Malaseb - it's awesome just lather the feet up and leave in the shower as you do the rest of him and he comes out squeaky clean and feet have never been itchy since using this. Honest it's the best, he used to eat his feet now he's just a cute little darling :-)
