Understanding Key Water Parameters

• pH: Most fish require a stable pH range to thrive, as significant fluctuations can be harmful or even fatal. Maintaining consistency is essential for their health and well-being.

• Ammonia: Produced naturally by fish through respiration and waste, ammonia also originates from decomposing food and organic matter. It is highly toxic and can cause severe stress, especially in newly established aquariums. Without proper management, ammonia buildup can lead to fish loss.

• Nitrite: Formed when beneficial bacteria break down ammonia, nitrite is extremely toxic to fish. Prolonged exposure to elevated nitrite levels—especially for more than a week—can be dangerous and must be addressed promptly.
